The West Jones Mustangs smashed the host Sacred Heart Crusaders soccer squad by a margin of 6-0 in Thursday's non-league match.
The Mustangs now sport a 10-1 record. They play next when they travel to Petal for a non-league match on Friday, January 6.
With the loss, Sacred Heart drops to 9-2 on the season. The Crusaders travel to Gulfport (Gulfport, MS) to encounter the Admirals in a non-league match on Saturday, January 7. The Admirals come into the match with a record of 6-1. Gulfport won 2-1 in their recent non-league match against Bay (Bay St. Louis, MS)
Sara Coleman put the ball into the top 90% of the goal, off an direct kick from just outside the corner of the 18 yard box in the 19th minute, then in the 29th minute Sara scored again off nice pass from Beth Coleman, the play started with Carly Mauldin stealing the ball then passed to Payton Roney then to Beth and that is how the half ended 2-0.
14 minutes into the second half, Sara Coleman scored after shots by Beth Coleman and Meredith Follis were saved by the keeper, but bounced back to Sara who blasted it from 14 yards out.
In the 59th minute, Peyton Roney scored off another nice cross from Sara Coleman, then Sara Coleman beat the keeper for the 4th time in the 62nd minute, Mia Bridges was credited with the assist. After holding Sacred Heart’s top scorer to a few shots, Carly Maudlin broke down the sideline and Sara Coleman hit her with a great pass, then Carly scored for the final goal in the 68th minute. West’s Abby Baravik played one of her best game in goal, had 14 saves.
