The Berkeley Prep Buccaneers (Tampa, FL) soccer overwhelmed the host Tampa Catholic Crusaders (Tampa, FL), 4-0 in Friday's non-league bout.
With the win, Berkeley Prep betters its record to 23-2 on the year.
In their next game, the Crusaders battle the Bishop Verot Vikings (Fort Myers, FL) in a non-league bout, on Thursday, February 5. Tampa Catholic will attempt to better on its 11-7 season record. The Vikings go into the bout with a 15-4 record after their 4-1 non-league win over Gulf Coast (Naples, FL).
Berkeley Prep picked up their second consecutive district championship trophy on Friday night after beating host Tampa Catholic 4-0 in a repeat match from last year's final. The Bucs outplayed their under-manned counterparts during the first half, but could not find the back of the net as both teams went into the half time break tied 0-0. The Crusaders were missing their top scorer Andrew Buckley due to school related problems. Tampa Catholic's defensive-minded effort had frustrated the Bucs' attack for most of the first half, but with a district title on the line, the Bucs turned up the intensity in the second half.
JD Post(2), Theo Wells, and Jordan Tannenbaum scored the goals as the Bucs cruised to a 4-0 win. Goalie Alex Jenkins wasn't tested very much throughout the game and picked up the shut-out with help from a strong defensive effort from the Bucs' defenders. With the win and the district title, the Bucs will host the Regional Quarterfinal game on Thursday against Cardinal Mooney from Sarasota.
