No umpires! A 4 p.m. game finally got underway around 5:30 p.m. when the JV ump arrived for his game. Despite losing a dance-off in the 90-minute delay, the DJO girls proved more than up to the task once play got underway -- jumping out to a 13-0 lead en route to a 13-2 victory over the home-standing Cadets of St. John's.
Kathryn Sandercock worked three shutout innings before turning it over to Lyndsay Flippin to finish up. Sandercock surrendered no hits, striking out seven and walking one. Flippin hurled three innings, yielding two runs on three hits. She struck out two and walked one.
Caitlin Jorae, Leah Hammes, Elizabeth Hoeymans and Sandercock had two hits each, but the big blow of the game was a pinch-hit, grand slam home run by senior Angela Cottini in the fourth inning. Hammes and Sandercock's totals each included doubles.
