Donovan Wildcats (Donovan, IL) backers exited the stadium thrilled Wednesday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Illinois Lutheran Chargers (Crete, IL), 10-7 in a league challenge.
The Wildcats now own a 3-11 record. They take the field next when they travel to Hoopeston for a non-league challenge on Saturday, April 28. Donovan will battle a Cornjerkers squad coming off a 3-1 non-league loss to Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley (Gibson City, IL). The Cornjerkers record now stands at 9-8.
With the loss, Illinois Lutheran falls to 8-6 on the campaign. The Chargers host East Chicago Central (East Chicago, IN) to battle the Cardinals in a non-league challenge on Thursday, April 26. The Cardinals enter the challenge with a record of 0-1.
Illinois Lutheran Chargers stayed in it until the end, but Donovan pulled away late in a 10-7 victory on Wednesday. The game was tied at five with Donovan batting in the bottom of the sixth when Hope Mitton doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Illinois Lutheran Chargers collected seven hits and Donovan had seven in the high-scoring affair.
