Spectators at Saturday's non-league match between the Hoopeston Cornjerkers (Hoopeston, IL) and the visiting Illinois Lutheran Chargers (Crete, IL), witnessed Hoopeston's softball squad tip Illinois Lutheran by a count of 13-6.
The Cornjerkers now sport a 8-5 record. They play next when they host Oakwood for a Vermilion Valley match on Monday, April 23. Hoopeston will meet a Comets squad coming off a 9-2 league win over Schlarman (Danville, IL). The Comets record now stands at 6-7.
With the loss, Illinois Lutheran moves to 6-5 on the season. The Chargers host Donovan (Donovan, IL) to meet the Wildcats in a River Valley match on Monday, April 23. The Wildcats go into the match with a record of 2-10. Donovan lost 8-6 in their recent non-league match against Momence (Momence, IL)
Four RBIs from Mollie Hinz weren't enough as Illinois Lutheran Chargers fell to Hoopeston 13-6 on Saturday. Hinz drove in runs on a triple in the first and a home run in the fifth.
Despite the loss, Illinois Lutheran Chargers did collect ten hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Hoopeston had 11 hits on the way to victory.
Illinois Lutheran Chargers got on the board in the first inning. Hinz tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Hoopeston evened things up at three in the bottom of the first inning. An error scored one run for Hoopeston.
Hoopeston pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning. In the second #29 singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run and #25 singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.
Hoopeston scored five runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Hoopeston came thanks to a single by #7, a home run by #25, and a double by #2.
