The Valor Christian Eagles (Highlands Ranch, CO) volleyball nudged the host Green Mountain Rams (Lakewood, CO), 3-2 in Thursday's league outing.
With the win, Valor Christian betters its record to 5-3 on the year. The Eagles travel to Montbello (Denver, CO) to face the Warriors in a non-league outing on Tuesday, September 20. The Warriors go into the outing with a record of 1-8. Montbello lost 3-0 in their recent non-league outing against Adams City (Commerce City, CO)
The Rams now sport a 5-4 record. They play next when they travel to Denver South for a non-league outing on Thursday, September 22. Green Mountain will face a Rebels squad coming off a 3-1 non-league win over Dakota Ridge (Littleton, CO). The Rebels record now stands at 6-2.
Valor Christian squared off with Green Mountain in the opening week of Conference play in the Jefferson County 4A League. Green Mountain, last year's conference champion came out strong out of the gates thanks to the leadership and strong play of Junior Hannah Ikeler and Senior Jaci Buscher. Following the first two sets of the match, it appeared that the match was well in hand as the Homecoming Crowd continued to cheer on their beloved Rams.
However, the third set proved to be the tipping point as Valor went on several 5 point runs and finally found their tempo against a gritty, determined Green Mountain Team. Valor hit their stride toward the end of the marathon match and put Green Mountain away in the fifth set 15-9 due to several key aces and great ball distribution by Junior setter, Samantha Baldwin.
Valor is now 5-3 and plays next Tuesday at 5A Montbello, while Green Mountain is now 5-4 and plays at Denver South on Tuesday.
