The crowd at Monday's non-league bout between the Illinois Lutheran Chargers (Crete, IL) and the host Heritage Christian Defenders (Dyer, IN), saw Illinois Lutheran's volleyball squad beat Heritage Christian by a tally of 3-1.
With the win, Illinois Lutheran upgrades its record to 10-12 on the year. The Chargers host Tri-Point (Cullom, IL) to confront the Chargers in a River Valley game on Tuesday, October 2. The Chargers enter the game with a record of 5-17. Tri-Point lost 2-1 in their recent non-league game against Clifton Central (Clifton, IL)
The Defenders (5-7) will now prepare for their game against Illiana Christian (Lansing, IL). The Vikings enter the non-league game with a 9-13 record. In their last game, Illiana Christian gained a win over Highland (Highland, IN), 3-1, in a non-league game.
ILHS traveled to Heritage Christian for a best 3 out of 5 non conference match. The Chargers started out strong. They started with a 6-3 lead and built it to 24-12 before Heritage had a 5 point serving run to get within 6. The Chargers finished it off, winning the first set 25-18. The Chargers also built up a lead in the second set and were up 20-12, before Heritage went on a 4 point serving run to set within 4 and then 3 servers later finished the set with a 5 point serving run giving the Chargers a 23-25 second set loss. The Chargers didn't let up in the third set. Jessie Moseley and Paige Biesterfeld went on back to back serving runs to put the Chargers up 18-9 and they finished the third set 25-13. The Chargers found themselves behind 6-13 when Paige Biesterfeld stepped up to the serving line and served for 10 straight points. Her aggressive serves took Heritage out of system, allowing the Chargers to take control. The Chargers finished the fourth set and the match, 25-20.
