Congratulations to Rebecca Valencia for being selected as Player of the Week. When Rebecca shows up for the game, her teammates might say, "Hey, Becca!" Her opponents just say "Oh, no!" That's because the freshman left back who sports jersey number 13 on the varsity team is a force to be reckoned with on the field. She's played in 24 of 25 games this season, and her 67 steals is in the top five on her team. She's as quiet and unassuming off the field as she is tall and strong on it. She regularly launches balls down field about 1.73 miles -- or so it seems. On May 1 against the defending league champs, Becca led all her teammates with five steals, and the win clinched the league title for Amador. On May 3, she added an assist to her repertoire when her teammate scored after latching on to a looooong clearance kick. Speak softly but carry a big stick -- that's how No. 13 operates in every game.View Previous Selections

Posted: Tue, May 01 2012 Congratulations to Katrisse Brown for being selected as Player of the Week. A freshman on varsity, Katrisse's contributions this season -- last week especially -- have been outstanding. Usually a forward or mid, she was on the back line this week and played two games out of her mind. The Herd could not lose either game, as the 2nd-place team was closing in. Both games ended in draws to put Katrisse's team on the verge of winning league. Without her, Amador surely would have lost at least one of the games. She's a tiny redhead and the team's speediest player. When she tangles with another team's tall forwards,it's fun to watch them look chagrined as Katrisse squirms in and out of the tiniest spaces to stop them cold. Many times last week, Katrisse flew in like a comet to stop the attack with a tackle or a steal. Before the victim clued in, Katrisse was 20 yards downfield. A foot taller than her? Like the honey badger in that funny video, Katrisse don't give a #$%& if you're 6-foot-5. She will smoke you out of your socks anyway. Comet Katrisse just don't care! View Previous Selections

Posted: Tue, Apr 24 2012 Congratulations to Madissen Ostergaard for being selected as Player of the Week. Madissen is the heartbeat of the Thundering Herd. From her spot in central midfield, she can always be counted upon to send the pass at just the right moment, to chase down an opposing player with a tenacity that belies her small stature, to fly in from nowhere to help her mates on defense. A team captain, the junior simply ... never ... stops ... moving. Madissen's Buffaloes played three games this week, all wins. She had 14 shots, and though she didn't score, her movement, great game intelligence and non-stop hustle played a big role, as always. In the second match of the week, her beautiful chip over the opposing defense was the assist on the second goal in a 2-0 win. The next night, Madissen again was unstoppable in a 1-0 win -- a sweet victory indeed, as it avenged the Buffaloes' only league loss. Third on the team in goals scored and tops in both assists and steals, Madissen is a big reason her team has been in first place since the second game of the season.View Previous Selections
