Posted: Fri, Oct 21 2011 Congratulations to Andrew Espinoza for being selected as Player of the Week. Moving from center to left guard, senior Eduardo Torrales along with the Espinoza brothers Marcos and Andrew at fullback and right guard, turned the left side of Mendocino’s defense into a revolving door of personnel changes as Mezzanato and running back Omar Benevides had big gain after big gain running off right guard. Young Andrew Espinoza, a 14 year old sophomore, played through a very painful ankle sprain but continued to open huge running lanes inside, while Torrales was asked to pull from the backside on multiple and consecutive play calls, one of the most challenging techniques in football. Torrales and Andrew Espinoza have been selected as co-players of the week for their gutsy performance.View Previous Selections

Finally showing the ability to mesh his physical style with an intelligent approach, Jason was a wrecking ball on both sides of the ball all night long. Punishing opposing ball carriers and blocking with the kind of aggressive intent that would impress even the toughest of old guard ball players, it was his tone that established the style of game the Panthers would play all night long. You can add the the two interceptions, multiple receptions, a defensive and an offensive touchdown to his list of accomplishments Friday night and make a hard to argue case for this week's most valuable player. Chava finished was instrumental in AV's comeback win, with a game changing interception that lead to the panther's first lead of the night. He followed that by immediately kicking and recovering an onside kick, the scoring on a 30 yard TD pass the very next play. With 76 points scored and only 305 yards of offense to show for it, the return game had to have been on fire, and it was. Omar ripped through the Laytonville coverage team, scoring once, having another called back, and crossing midfield on every return. Two key game changing interceptions on defense, coupled with a rushing touchdown and 10 yard per carry average on offense, makes Omar a solid pick For player of the week. View Previous Selections
