Congratulations to Steven Rivera for being selected as Player of the Year. Phrases like "once in a decade" athlete are often overblown. With the senior quarterback, a four-year starter behind center for the Knights, it might be an understatement.
Rivera's senior year was one of the best statistical seasons in San Gabriel Valley history: 3408 passing yards with 38 TDs and only 5 interceptions. He also added over 400 rushing yards and 9 rushing TDs. And that was just on offense--on defense, Rivera logged over 130 tackles, six forced fumbles, and five interceptions.
He finishes his Arroyo career with over 8500 passing yards and 94 passing TDs, both all-time Top 10 CIF performances.View Previous Selections

In a heartbreaking cliffhanger of a CIF playoff defeat, Lopez did for the Knights what he has done all year: fire off from his defensive end position on every snap and make plays. Only a junior, Lopez will be integral to an Arroyo defense that will return seven defensive starters next season.View Previous Selections

Arroyo's ticket to the second round of the CIF playoffs was punched with another legendary Steven Rivera performance, and timely defensive stops. One of the critical forces on that defensive effort was Landry, a junior defensive end. He was integral to the Knights' ability to hold Sierra Vista to just 41 rushing yards on 19 attempts in the second half of Arroyo's 42-17 win.View Previous Selections

In clinching the MVL title, the Knights got a lot of quiet help from one of their most consistent performers. Juaregui, only a sophomore, had three catches on offense. More importantly, he locked down El Monte's leading receiver, holding him to three catches for less than 35 yards. Posted: Thu, Nov 10 2011 Congratulations to Zach Daniels for being selected as Player of the Week. The Arroyo defense dominated versus Gabrielini, allowing just 3 points and 131 total yards. Integral to that effort was junior linebacker Zach Daniels, who for the second time in three games notched more than a dozen tackles on the night. He ended up with 17 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and a key sack early in the game, as the Knights remained undefeated in the MVL with a 49-3 victory over the Eagles. View Previous Selections

Rivera becomes the first two-time winner of the Player of the Week award for the Knights, as he was all over the field for the Knights in their come-from-behind 28-21 win over Rosemead HS. On offense, Rivera threw for 193 yards, and led the team on a drive with less than four minutes to go that put the team ahead. On defense, he had a key fumble recovery in the second half to set up the tying score, and then sealed the game with an interception with 15 seconds remaining.
