With Ana Afu out, Asia Johnson and Princess Quides, and Asia Hasberry stepped up their productivity. However, none was more effective than Rachel Watson. The point guard became our highest scoring, puting in 36 points and adding 7 assists.
Though early in league, it has gone much like the non league portion of our schedule (0-3). While many of the young sophomores are struggling with consitancy, seniors, Brianna Key and Rachel Watson are beginning to assert themselves. However, Ana Afu once again proved to be the teams best performer of the course of the first three games in league. Afu accounts for 49% of her teams points and adding a team high 26 rebounds.
There's no other way to describe this past week, other than "ugly". The Lady Bucs went 0-5 this past week, as it lost a few key contributors. The lone bright spots were Ana Afu and Asjia Hasberry who were one-two in scoring throughout the tournament. Afu finally decided to showed up this year, leading the Bucs in scoring (40 points) and finishing second in rebounding (30). The Lady Bucs hope to everyone back as they start league play this week.
The Lady Bucs suffered a set back at the Valley Christian Tournament going 1-3. There sole victory came against Elsinore, avenging a playoff lose two years ago. The Bucs continued to see growth from Sophomores Asia Johnson and Asjia Hasberry, while witness Senior Rachel Watson starting to find her groove. However, Sophomore Janel Jackson stood out with her energy and determination. She led the team with 12 steals and 30 loose balls over the course of the week demonstrating her heart.
The Lady Bucs went 2-2 and the Downey Classic this week, knocking off St. Matthias and Cabrillo. Bellflower got contribution from nearly everyone throughout the tournament, such Janel Jackson, Asjia Hasberry, Ana Afu, and Rachel Watson. Howvever, the most consistant performer of the week was Asia Johnson, who scored a team high 30 points, while adding 6 assits and 7 steals. Her efforts during the week were exemplified in scoring 9 points in a losing effort against North Torrance. Johnson are and the Lady Bucs are off to a good start on the season.
