Congratulations to Nohlan Hernandez for being selected as Player of the Week. NOHLAN HERNANDEZ, a senior, was chosen Player of the Week for the Damien and Chino Hills games in Sierra League action. He was 3 for 4, with a sacrifice and run scored in the two games. Receiving an HONORABLE MENTION were junior catcher DANIEL VASQUEZ and pitcher JON REID. VASQUEZ was 3 for 7 in the two games and scored a run. He also back-picked a runner at first against Damien. REID was chosen for his two hits in the two games and his first win of the season over Chino Hills. The junior right-hander struck out three and allowed a run.View Previous Selections
Posted: This Week Congratulations to Jon Reid for being selected as Player of the Week. EDITORS NOTE: Both JON REID and MAC LUPTON were chosen as Co-Players of the Week, but Max Preps will allow only one name and picture to be displayed. REID was 5 for 8 in the two South Hills games, including three singles and an RBI in the 2-1 win on Wednesday and a double and a single and another RBI in Friday's 4-2 win. REID raised his average to .429. LUPTON pitched six innings of three-hit ball and struck out five batters. The Huskies had just won the Dicks Sporting Goods Tournament on Saturday before LUPTON shut them down. Receiving an HONORABLE MENTION were JOE GIL and OSCAR MONTENEGRO. Gil had the game-winning hit in the eighth inning to defeat S.H. MONTENEGRO, the Tribune Athlete of the Week, pitched a complete game to get his third win of the season and complete the sweep of the Huskies for the week. SANTIAGO, a senior shortstop was selected Player of the Week ending March 11 for the Rancho Cucamonga and West Covina games. Santiago, also a three-year starter at QB for the Charger football team, was 5 for 7, scoring three runs, including a double and a triple. He also drew a walk. Receiving an HONORABLE MENTION was senior second baseman NICK HERNANDEZ. He was 3 for 5 in the two games, scored a run and stole a base. Also receiving an HONORABLE MENTION was last weeks' Player of the Week, MAC LUPTON, for his second win of the season. LUPTON went six innings against Rancho Cucamonga, giving up a run, striking out four and allowed only one hit.View Previous Selections

LUPTON,a senior pitcher, was selected for his first victory of the season against perennial power, Orange Lutheran. The right-hander pitched five innings (2 runs, 1 earned), allowed only three hits and struck out one in an 11-3 win. HONORABLE MENTION goes to sophomore outfielder KORY BROWN and freshman DH NICK F. HERNANDEZ. BROWN, in the three games in week one, was 4 for 8, including 3 runs scored, 2 RBIs and drew 3 walks. HERNANDEZ, who was called up to varsity in the second game of the season, belted a two-run double to deep center field in his first AB.
