Congratulations to Tyler Boxwell for being selected as Player of the Year. As a junior, Tyler led the team with an on-base percentage of .548 and the team’s second highest batting average of .392. His team high .689 slugging percentage was also the second highest in the 4A-II Skyline Region. Tyler broke his own school record of walks in a season with 25, adding to his career school record of 64 over the past three seasons. Always a tough out at the plate, Tyler struck out just 11 times in 106 plate appearances, the fourth best strikeout ratio in school history, and his three home runs tied for the season high. Defensively, Tyler accounted for 151 put outs with 175 chances and a .966 fielding percentage behind the plate. For the second straight year, he sported a gaudy caught stealing percentage of .467, although our opponent’s learned their lesson last season and attempted to steal on Tyler far less in 2011. His presence to deter base runners alone was an asset few teams ever get the luxury of having, and makes him our 2011 Viper Award recipient.View Previous Selections
