Maryland High School Softball - Seton falls to Bishop O'Connell
April 3, 2014: Bladensburg, MD 20710 In Thursday's league outing, the visiting Bishop O'Connell Knights softball team scored a nice 19-0 win over the Seton .
Coming up next, the Knights battle the St. John's Cadets (Washington, DC) in a Washington Catholic outing, on Friday, April 4. Bishop O'Connell will attempt to upgrade on its 3-1 season record. The Cadets enter the outing with a 0-3 record after their 12-5 league loss to Paul VI (Fairfax, VA).
The (2-1) will now prepare for their outing against Archbishop Carroll (Washington, DC). The Lions enter the non-league outing with a 0-0 record.
Game Summary
The bats came alive today at Riverdale Rec, as the DJO girls pounded out 20 hits en route to a 19-0 win over Elizabeth Seton in Bladensburg, Md. Olivia Giaquinto once again led the O'Connell assault, going 5-for-5 including a triple and a two-run double as she totaled four RBI on the afternoon. Hayley Metcalf, Shannon Murphy, Amanda Ehlers, Erin Sweeney, Kayla Turner, Jenna Spille and Maggie Goldsmith all had two-hit days, with Turner's including a two-run double and Goldsmith's a lead-off triple in the second inning. Erin Sweeney had probably her best performance of the spring in the circle, hurling a two-hit shutout and striking out 10 in the process. Defensively, Hayley Metcalf had another outstanding game at the keystone corner -- making a pair of beautiful plays to douse any hopes of Seton mounting a threat in the late going.
