Delaware High School Basketball - Mount Pleasant nipped by St. Elizabeth
January 29, 2011: Wilmington, DE 19805 The St. Elizabeth Vikings tipped the visiting Mount Pleasant Green Knights basketball team by a final score of 67-62 in Saturday's non-league game.
In their next game, the Vikings face the St. Mark's Spartans (Wilmington, DE) in a Freelance game, on Monday, January 31. St. Elizabeth will attempt to move on its 8-2 season record. The Spartans enter the game with a 9-4 record after their 57-36 non-league win over Archmere Academy (Claymont, DE).
With the defeat, Mount Pleasant moves to 6-5 on the year. The Green knights host Dickinson (Wilmington, DE) to face the Rams in a Blue Hen Flight - B game on Tuesday, February 1. The Rams enter the game with a record of 2-9.
First Quarter
Sr. guard Matt Modica hit two 3's, So.Andre Patton added 8 points and Jr. Tim Massado had 9 points to lead the Vikings to a fast start and an 11 point 1st quarter lead over the stubborn Mt. Pleasant Green Knights.
Second Quarter
Massado added 9 more points to his game high 25 points and Andre Patton added 7 points to 10 rebounds for a 1st half double double to jump the Vikings' halftime lead to 17 points
Third Quarter
Mt.Pleasant made a furious comeback to outscore the Vikings 16-7 to cut the 3rd period lead to 8 points.
Fourth Quarter
The Green Knights surge continued in the 4th quarter and they actually took a 3 point lead in the 4th before Andre Patton scored to tie the game 59-59. Chris Doherty's jumper with 1 second left just missed as the game went into overtime.
Overtime
Massado made two big scores to give the Vikings the lead in overtime and Sr. CJ Craft hit 2 free throws with 15 seconds left to seal the win in a hard fought excellent ballgame played by both teams with no practice for the entire week due to weather.
