Texas High School Basketball - Crowley nipped by Mansfield Summit
January 4, 2011: Crowley, TX 76036 The Mansfield Summit Jaguars tipped the host Crowley Eagles basketball team by a final score of 58-52 in Tuesday's league game.
In their next game, the Jaguars face the Cleburne Yellowjackets (Cleburne, TX) in a 4A Region I District 7 game, on Friday, January 7. Mansfield Summit will attempt to move on its 15-6 season record.
With the defeat, Crowley moves to 10-10 on the year. The Eagles travel to Seguin (Arlington, TX) to face the Cougars in a 4A Region I District 7 game on Friday, January 7. The Cougars enter the game with a record of 6-13. Seguin lost 66-50 in their recent league game against Everman (Everman, TX)
First Quarter
Crowley coming off advancing to the Fort Worth ISD Coca Cola Tournament Final against Austin LBJ before losing to 60-53 came out on fire and led 13-5 with just over 4 minutes left in the first quarter. Summit's Jordan Marshall nailed a 3 from the corner and this was followed by a thunderous dunk by Wesley Davis and a foul completed a three point play and Summit ended the quarter down 13-11.
Second Quarter
The second quarter saw the game see - saw back and forth with each team going on significant runs. Deondre Ray for Crowley who finished with 18 points, hit a 3 pointer to tie the game 26-26 at halftime.
Third Quarter
Summit came out on fire in the 3rd qtr on offense and defense. The defense had several steals in the quarter and Joel Kapiamba had 4 of his 12 points in the quarter, while Davis continued his hot shooting. Summit stretched out their lead at the end of the quarter, leading 41-35 after 3 quarters.
Fourth Quarter
The fourth quarter turned into a free throw fest with two minutes to go and Summit up by 6. Marshall scored six points in the decisive quarter including 2 free throws to ice the game at the end. Final score Summit 58, Crowley 52
