California High School Basketball - Palos Verdes Peninsula tops Palos Verdes
January 21, 2014: Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274 Palos Verdes Peninsula Panthers (Rolling Hills Estates, CA) backers were pleased Tuesday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the visiting Palos Verdes Sea Kings (Palos Verdes Estates, CA), 44-35 in a league bout.
With the victory, Palos Verdes Peninsula upgrades its record to 5-6 on the campaign. The Panthers travel to Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach, CA) to play the Mustangs in a bout on Friday, January 24. The Mustangs come into the bout with a record of 4-3. Mira Costa lost 50-47 in their recent non-league bout against Leuzinger (Lawndale, CA)
Next up, the Sea Kings play the Redondo Union Sea Hawks (Redondo Beach, CA) in a non-league bout, on Friday, January 24. Palos Verdes will attempt to upgrade on its 10-6 season record.
First Quarter
Peninsula and Palos Verdes started off slow with both teams missing numerous shots and making unforced turnovers. The Panthers led at the end of the 1st quarter 9-6.
Second Quarter
The 2nd quarter was a continuation of the first and both teams stayed close to one another with Peninsula going into half-time with a slight edge of 19-14.
Third Quarter
The 3rd quarter saw the Peninsula Panthers lose their shooting touch and they missed several opportunities to score. Palos Verdes outscored Peninsula 9-3 in the quarter to end the third quarter with a one point lead of 23-22.
Fourth Quarter
The 4th quarter began with Palos Verdes making a run on Peninsula to go up 29-22, Peninsula switched up their defense and went man-to-man and began forcing bad shots for Palos Verdes and Peninsula began making theirs. Peninsula came back to out score the Palos Verdes Sea Kings 22-12 in the 4th quarter and win the game 44-35. The Peninsula Panthers now stand at 1-1 in the Bay League with the Leuzinger game being cancelled due to the bad quality of the air from the Colby Fire.
