Kansas High School Basketball - East tipped by Heights
December 4, 2009: Wichita, KS 67211 In Friday's league match, the visiting Heights Falcons basketball team scored a tight 60-57 triumph over the East Aces.
In their next game, the Falcons confront the North Redskins (Wichita, KS) in a Greater Wichita City match, on Tuesday, December 8. Heights will attempt to move on its 1-0 season record.
With the defeat, East moves to 0-1 on the year. The Aces travel to South (Wichita, KS) to confront the Titans in a Greater Wichita City match on Friday, December 11. The Titans enter the match with a record of 1-0.
First Quarter
Number 1 Heights on the road at Number 2 East. Tough way to start the season. Dreamius Smith scored 9 points and Heights led 13-9 after one quarter. The lead could have been larger but Heights shot 1-5 at the foul line
Second Quarter
Heights scoring was more evenly distributed. 5 different players scored and heights made 3-4 free throws. The falcons turned the ball over and East scored 17 points. Heights led 28-27 at half.
Third Quarter
Once again turnovers hurt Heights. East scored 19 points and led by as many as 10 points before the falcons closed the gap to 4 and trailed 42-46.
Fourth Quarter
A back and forth quarter found East pulling away with an 8 point lead only to see Heights rally and take a 3 point lead with 5 minutes to go. East made some tough shots and took the lead by 3 with 1:30 to play with the ball. Heights stole the ball 3 straight times and won 60-57. Dreamius Smith led Heights with 19 points. Perry Ellis scored 15 with 9 rebounds and E.J. Dobbins scored 14 at the point guard position. Great opening night victory on the road.
