Gaelettes Get First Fall Win on the New Finn Carpet!
The Gaelettes took their first game steps on the new turf field at Finn Stadium and about 90 minutes later, came away with a 2-0 victory over previously undefeated Mercy High School. Shelton came to win, showing it from a strong warmup and through their most complete game of the season. The Gaelettes pinned the Tigers in their own end and kept them their most of the first half. Shelton's midfield of Izzy Rosa, Leya Vohra and Devan Wildman won nearly all the 50/50 balls and anything that go through was quickly blunted by the Gaelette's strong back line. Mercy proved tough the last third though and the Gaelettes went to half scoreless. Shelton broke through in the 62nd minute as Haley Oko's cross found Mackenzie Joyce and put the Gaelettes ahead. Four minutes later, Leya Vohra fed a short pass out to Maggie Howard and she punched a shot just inside the right post and doubled the lead and give the Gaelettes their 6th win.
