California High School Soccer - Saddleback Valley Christian held off by Calvary Chapel
December 17, 2008: San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675 The crowd at Wednesday's non-league outing between the Calvary Chapel Grizzlies (Downey, CA) and the host Saddleback Valley Christian Warriors (San Juan Capistrano, CA), saw Calvary Chapel's soccer squad nudge Saddleback Valley Christian by a margin of 2-1.
The Grizzlies now hold a 3-1 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Notre Dame for a non-league outing on Monday, December 29. Calvary Chapel will meet a Titans squad coming off a 2-2 league Citrus Hill (Perris, CA). The Titans record now stands at 1-3.
With the loss, Saddleback Valley Christian drops to 2-6 on the season. The Warriors travel to Arrowhead Christian (Redlands, CA) to meet the Eagles in a non-league outing on Monday, December 29. The Eagles come into the outing with a record of 4-4. Arrowhead Christian lost 3-1 in their recent non-league outing against Bloomington (Bloomington, CA)
First Half
Saddleback Valley scored at 15 minutes in, after Calvary had maintained possesion of the ball much of these early minutes, when Calvary made defensive errors on Saddleback's counter attack. At 33 minutes Jonathan Hargrove evened the score on a timely assist from Sr. Captain John Rey
Second Half
Some adjustments were made by both teams and though Saddleback did have a couple counter attack oppurtunities in the second half, Calvary Downey's possesion game was re-established and they went ahead for good on an unassisted goal by Derek Fitle in the 70th minute.
