California High School Basketball - St. Francis tipped by Archbishop Mitty
January 8, 2014: Mountain View, CA 94040 In Wednesday's league game, the visiting Archbishop Mitty Monarchs basketball team scored a tight 59-57 triumph over the St. Francis Lancers.
In their next game, the Monarchs face the Carondelet Cougars (Concord, CA) in a non-league game, on Saturday, January 11. Archbishop Mitty will attempt to move on its 8-4 season record. The Cougars enter the game with a 9-2 record after their 67-38 league win over Foothill (Pleasanton, CA).
With the defeat, St. Francis moves to 7-5 on the year. The Lancers travel to Notre Dame (Belmont, CA) to face the Tigers in a West Catholic game on Saturday, January 11. The Tigers enter the game with a record of 8-3. Notre Dame won 61-37 in their recent non-league game against Terra Nova (Pacifica, CA)
First Quarter
First quarter started out to be a runaway by the Monarchs. Out running the Lancers by a score of 15 to 12.
Second Quarter
This quarter saw the Monarchs lead 34 to 30 at half time. Taylor (Todd) hit 3 three pointers to lead the team at the half with 9 points. Kelli (Hayes) also got 8 points for the team. Kiana Tam was the leader for the Lancers with 8. Both teams found making field goals was on short supply.
Third Quarter
This quarter found the Lancers taking the lead 49-44. Poor shooting and turnovers hurt the Monarchs.
Fourth Quarter
This quarter brought the shoot out with the Monarchs winning 59-57. Outstanding hussel brought the team back. For the game Mitty had three double figure scorers. Leading the way was Kelli with 13, Regina (Chi) with 12 , and Taylor with 11. On a team note the Monarchs were 21 of 21 from the free throw line.
