New York High School Baseball - Hamburg nips Starpoint
May 4, 2012: Hamburg, NY 14075 Hamburg Bulldogs (Hamburg, NY) fans exited the stadium thrilled Friday as they observed their baseball squad hold off the visiting Starpoint Spartans (Lockport, NY), 4-3 in a league test.
With the win, Hamburg upgrades its record to 7-5 on the season. The Bulldogs travel to South (Williamsville, NY) to battle the Billies in a test on Monday, May 7. The Billies come into the test with a record of 2-0.
With the defeat, Starpoint falls to 3-2 on the season. The Spartans host West Seneca East (West Seneca, NY) to battle the Trojans in a non-league game on Monday, May 7. The Trojans go into the game with a record of 0-0.
Game Summary
A Hollywood script couldn't have provided any more suspense than what the Bulldogs and their fans experienced Friday night. Trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the 7th inning Patrick Skelly led off with a walk and Kyle Munro hit into a controversial fielder's choice that went Hamburg's way. Now the stage was set as sophmore captain Tom Moses hit an rbi double that ignited the Bulldog bench. Tosh Johnson hit his 2nd rbi of the season with a smash to 2nd base to cut the lead to 3-2. With two outs Jake Mertowski stepped to the plate and delivered a clutch hit up the middle to plate Tom Moses and force extra innings. In the bottom of the 8th Ryan Filas drew a lead off walk before Jordan Paxson and Brett Ross put down beautiful bunts. With two outs Kyle Munro provided the much needed fireworks with a hard hit through the 3rd baseman!! Earlier in the contest starting pitcher Ryan Herr had a no-hitter going into the top of the 5th as he relied on a sharp curveball to keep their hitt...
