Maryland High School Baseball - Atholton defeats Long Reach
March 24, 2014: Columbia, MD 21045 Atholton Raiders (Columbia, MD) fans exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they observed their baseball squad overcome the host Long Reach Lightning (Columbia, MD), 9-4 in a league test.
With the win, Atholton upgrades its record to 2-0 on the season. The Raiders host Hammond (Columbia, MD) to battle the Golden Bears in a Howard County test on Wednesday, March 26. The Golden Bears come into the test with a record of 0-1. Hammond lost 2-0 in their recent league test against Glenelg (Glenelg, MD)
With the defeat, Long Reach falls to 0-2 on the season. The Lightning travel to Glenelg (Glenelg, MD) to battle the Gladiators in a Howard County test on Tuesday, March 25. The Gladiators come into the test with a record of 1-0. Glenelg won 2-0 in their recent league test against Hammond (Columbia, MD)
Game Summary
The Raiders beat Long Reach 9-4 in a very competitive game that was not closed out until Atholton scored 3 runs in the 7th to put the game out of "reach". Nick Raulin pitched 4 innings to get the win striking out 3 and giving up two earned runs. James Bagley earned the Player of the Game by going 2-2 with 2 RBIs a walk and a Sacrifice Fly. Bags also threw out a runner attempting to steal. Michael Slayton homered to put the Raiders ahead for good and also drove in two other runs with a sacrifice fly and a single. Brady Acker doubled and singled, scored two runs and drove in the clinchers.
