Colorado High School Basketball - Roaring Fork tipped by Jefferson Academy
March 10, 2011: Carbondale, CO 81623 In Thursday's non-league match, the visiting Jefferson Academy Jaguars basketball team scored a tight 48-44 triumph over the Roaring Fork Rams.
In their next game, the Jaguars confront the Valley Vikings (Gilcrest, CO) in a non-league match, on Friday, March 11. Jefferson Academy will attempt to better on its 18-7 season record. The Vikings enter the match with a 22-4 record after their 56-45 non-league win over Brush (Brush, CO).
With the defeat, Roaring Fork moves to 17-8 on the year.
First Quarter
State Quarterfinal – The pace of the game started slow @ 8:45am. #30 Senior Jason Propst scored two buckets around the rim and senior #33 Chase Layton connected for one of two from the charity stripe after an offensive glass. Roaring Fork utilized their size to take an early 8-5 1st quarter lead.
Second Quarter
Roaring Fork attacked the bucket getting to the charity stripe for 7 of their 15 2nd quarter points. Seniors #4 Julian Schmidt and #32 Simeon Ukuni hit from long distance while adding another bucket as they each scored 5 in the quarter. #22 Senior Steven Kupcho provided a finishing lay-up. The Jaguars ended with 12 in the quarter, but trailed at intermission by 6 (23-17).
Third Quarter
The third quarter saw the Jaguars attack the aggressive 1-3-1 Roaring Fork defense. Ukuni was terrific scoring 8. Propst and Schmidt scored big buckets and each went 2-2 from the one point line. #44 freshman Bryson Sharpley scored an attacking basket from a great feed from Propst. The score was knotted at 35 heading into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Solid defense and scoring from most of the roster helped the Jaguars move onto the Final 4. #1 Junior Vaughn Ryan locked down on “D” and iced the game hitting a big free throw down the stretch. Schmidt added 4 pts, Propst, Ukuni, Layton, and Sharpley all scored in close. The Jaguars prevailed 48-44 at the final horn.
