California High School Basketball - Sierra Canyon thwarts Paraclete
January 23, 2009: Chatsworth, CA 91311 The Sierra Canyon Trailblazers (Chatsworth, CA) basketball felled the visiting Paraclete Spirits (Lancaster, CA), 54-44 in Friday's league test.
The Trailblazers (14-7) will now prepare for their test against Marshall (Pasadena, CA). The Eagles go into the Delphic test with a 13-4 record.
The Spirits now own a 9-10 record. They take the field next when they host Providence for a non-league test on Saturday, January 24.
First Quarter
Sierra Canyon completed the first round of league undefeated as they knocked off a talented and scrappy Paraclete squad 54-44. Freshman Jesse Howell scored 6 of Sierra's twelve points and the score was knotted 12-12 after one.
Second Quarter
The Blazers would lead 27-20 at intermission as Kunal Chhatwal hit a pair of free throws and had a beautiful assist to Navin Kheterpal. Daniel Cohen scored 5 of his game high 15 during the period and Julian Brooks scored four.
Third Quarter
Sierra extended his lead to 8 points during the third period as Shane Harrison scored four. Michael Cohen scored seven during the period.
Fourth Quarter
Despite a run by Paraclete, the Blazers were able to compose themselves and finish the game off 54-44. Sierra improves to 14-7 overall and 4-0 in league. The Blazers play a tough Marshall squad on Saturday at Pasadena High School.
