Colorado High School Soccer - Palmer Ridge nudges Valor Christian
September 17, 2013: Monument, CO 80132 Palmer Ridge Bears (Monument, CO) supporters were pleased Tuesday as they observed their soccer team hold off the visiting Valor Christian Eagles (Highlands Ranch, CO), 2-1 in a non-league challenge.
Next, the Bears confront the Cheyenne Mountain Indians (Colorado Springs, CO) in a challenge, on Thursday, September 19. Palmer Ridge will attempt to move on its 3-3 season record.
The Eagles now possess a 2-5 record. They take the field next when they travel to Summit for a non-league challenge on Thursday, September 19.
Game Summary
The Bears JV won a hard fought game against a tough Valor Christian JV. The Bears got up early in the 9th minute when Parker A. accelerated on to a nice ball slotted through by Matt G. and took it all the way to goal and made a nice finish past the keeper to get the Bears on top 1-0. The remainder of the half was a lot of back and forth with neither team able to get organized or when a strong time of possession. The Bears defense struggled to clear balls from their back third & that eventually cost them the equalizer from Valor who scored to even up the game 1-1 in the 37th minute. Half ended in a 1-1 tie. The 2nd half was a lot like the 1st half with both teams getting shots on goal, and struggling to possess through the midfield. It wasn't until the 38th minute when Larry D. was able to turn the corner and get a wonderful cross sent into the 6 where Parker A. buried it in the back of the net to give the Bears the win after holding off a hard charging Valor for the last 2:30.
