California High School Baseball - Cabrillo defeats Compton
April 28, 2014: Long Beach, CA 90810 Cabrillo Jaguars (Long Beach, CA) fans exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they observed their baseball squad overcome the visiting Compton Tarbabes (Compton, CA), 11-5 in a league test.
With the win, Cabrillo upgrades its record to 2-15 on the season. The Jaguars travel to San Dimas (San Dimas, CA) to battle the Saints in a non-league test on Wednesday, April 30. The Saints come into the test with a record of 15-6. San Dimas won 4-0 in their recent league test against Nogales (La Puente, CA)
With the defeat, Compton falls to 1-12 on the season. The Tarbabes host Long Beach Poly (Long Beach, CA) to battle the Jackrabbits in a Moore test on Friday, May 2. The Jackrabbits come into the test with a record of 9-15. Long Beach Poly lost 4-3 in their recent league test against Millikan (Long Beach, CA)
Game Summary
The Compton Tarbabes suffered their 8th league lost to Long Beach Cabrillo 11-5 to remain in the basement of the Moore League. Once again it was the defense of the Babes that played a pivotal role in the outcome of the game by committing 5 errors which contributed to 9 unearned runs. The Babes who lead the league in errors with 40 in only 8 games also were hurt by their pitchers who walked 6 batters and hit three others. Despite trailing 5-0 through two innings, the Babes put up 5 runs of their own in the top half of the third inning to even the score at 5. But the over the next four innings, the Jaguars of Cabrillo scored 6 runs to closed the game out. The only bright spot for the Babes was the fact that they collected 12 hits, their highest hit total in league play. Coach, John Thompson, announced on Wednesday, that he will bring up highly touted freshman sensation, SS Manny Lopez from the JV team. Lopez collected 2 triples and a double, with 6 RBI's against the Cabrillo JV's.
