Connecticut High School Softball - New Fairfield holds off Barlow
April 18, 2012: New Fairfield, CT 06812 The New Fairfield Rebels (New Fairfield, CT) softball the visiting Barlow Falcons (Redding, CT), 9-7 in Wednesday's league bout.
The Rebels (4-3) will now prepare for their bout against Immaculate (Danbury, CT). The Mustangs go into the Southwest - Patriot bout with a 0-2 record. In their last bout, Immaculate by Pomperaug (Southbury, CT), 17-0, in a league bout.
The Falcons now possess a 3-4 record. They play next when they host Lauralton Hall for a Southwest - Patriot bout on Friday, April 20.
Game Summary
The Falcons lost a key SWC matchup when they traveled to New Fairfield and came away at the short end of a 9-7 offensive contest. Barlow fell behind early at 5-0 and came all the way back to tie up the game only fall despite a last inning rally. Anne Dolan (0-2) took the loss in relief of Morgan Bonis and were both hit hard by the balanced Rebel's line-up. Olivia Ventricelli, Victoria Shea, Megan Montanaro and Kacey Hale all had two hits in the contest. Allie Grimes had a fifth inning double to tie the score at 5-5. New Fairfield's Mariah Piela blasted a three run homer in the sixth to nullify the Barlow comeback. The Falcons, 3-4 overall and 1-2 in league conference play host powerful Lauralton Hall in a critical SWC game on Friday at 10AM.
