Maryland High School Baseball - Northeast loses to South River
April 12, 2012: Edgewater, MD 21037 In Thursday's league game, the host South River Seahawks baseball team scored a tight 3-0 victory over the Northeast Eagles.
The Seahawks (7-2) will now prepare for their game against Great Mills (Great Mills, MD). The Hornets go into the non-league game with a 3-6 record. In their last game, Great Mills by Lackey (Indian Head, MD), 5-4, in a league game.
The Eagles (6-3) will now prepare for their game against Severna Park (Severna Park, MD). The Falcons go into the Anne Arundel County game with a 6-2 record.
Game Summary
What began as a scoreless pitcher's duel changed when catcher Jake Gratz drove in the go-ahead run to give South River (7-2, 4-2) the lead in the sixth inning, as South River hung on to beat Northeast 3-0 on Thursday at home.
Connor Cox singled to start the sixth. He then went from first to second on a groundout by Bryan Shores who singled twice earlier in the game. Then, North East intentionally walked Craig Sheridan who previously singled putting runners on first and second. Later, Gratz came to the plate with the game scoreless and 2 outs in the sixth inning and singled, scoring Cox.
Austin Wright, who singled in the fifth inning, doubled in the sixth inning to the right side driving in Sheridan and pinch runner Brody Raimondo who dove in the dirt and scrambled for the plate scoring on a bobbled ball at home to the delight of the fans.
Scott Mitchell worked hard for 7 innings. Mitchell faced a tough bases loaded situation in the first inning and struck out 7 overall.
