Delaware High School Basketball - Middletown nipped by St. Elizabeth
January 18, 2011: Middletown, DE 19709 The St. Elizabeth Vikings tipped the host Middletown Cavaliers basketball team by a final score of 65-64 in Tuesday's non-league game.
In their next game, the Vikings face the Archmere Academy Auks (Claymont, DE) in a non-league game, on Tuesday, January 25. St. Elizabeth will attempt to move on its 6-2 season record.
With the defeat, Middletown moves to 3-6 on the year. The Cavaliers travel to Newark (Newark, DE) to face the Yellowjackets in a Blue Hen Flight - A game on Friday, January 21. The Yellowjackets enter the game with a record of 6-3. Newark lost 76-55 in their recent non-league game against Chester (Chester, PA)
First Quarter
Matt Modica sparked the Vikings off the bench after they fell behind by 12 in the 1st quarter by hitting a 3 at the end to cut the lead to 3.
Second Quarter
Timmy Massado scored 9 of his game high 21 points and had 2 assists while Andre Patton scored 5 points and had 5 of his game high 13 rebounds leading the Vikings to a 2 point half time lead.
Third Quarter
Craig Napier had a 3 and 5 boards of his double double (13points/10 rebounds as St. E's hung tough on the home court of the Middletown Cavaliers whose balance hot shooting forged a tie at the end of the third period.
Fourth Quarter
Point guard Timmy Massado had 5 points and CJ Craft, playing on an injured ankle scored 4 to keep the Vikings tied at the end of regulation. Andre Patton controlled the boards with his 8th consecutive double double (13points/13 rebounds)
Overtime
Craig Napier hit a 3 to give the Vikings momentum in overtime but Timmy Massado had to hit a 3 with 17 seconds to bring the Vikings from behind and seize the lead. Leading scorer Ron Greene of Middletown hit 1 of 2 fouls to cut the lead to one and Middletown had the ball sideout with 7 seconds left but the Vikings defended well and came away with a hard fought 1 point road victory.
