California High School Basketball - Saddleback topped by Estancia
January 19, 2011: Costa Mesa, CA 92627 The Estancia Eagles basketball team scored 47 points and restricted the visiting Saddleback Roadrunners to 32 in the Eagles league victory on Wednesday.
The Eagles now sport a 11-9 record. They play next when they travel to Calvary Chapel for a Orange Coast contest on Friday, January 21. Estancia will meet a Eagles team coming off a 55-49 league loss to Costa Mesa (Costa Mesa, CA). The Eagles record now stands at 3-15.
The Roadrunners (6-10) will now prepare for their contest against Godinez (Santa Ana, CA). The come into the Orange Coast contest with a 10-9 record. In their last contest, Godinez was defeated by Laguna Beach (Laguna Beach, CA), 36-32, in a league contest.
First Quarter
Estancia jumped out on Saddleback with quick breaks and solid pressure defense. SHS did not look ready to compete. The Eagles took a 17-6 lead at the end of period one.
Second Quarter
Saddleback upped their intensity on defense and were more aggressive on the offensive end of the court. Jesse Castillo became a factor in the middle by scoring 7 points this period, but was only 1 for 4 from the FT line. The Roadrunners cut the lead to 21-17 at the half.
Third Quarter
Saddleback came out in the 3rd stanza with tough defense, allowing only 6 points in the 3rd, while scoring 12 themselves.
Fourth Quarter
Saddleback took a 29-27 lead into the 4th quarter. Then to bottom fell out. SHS missed a couple easy lay-up shots and broke down defensively. Estancia took advantage of the Roadrunners fatigue and pounded them 20-3 to close the game with a 47-32 win, leaving Saddleback 0-3 in league and 6-10 overall.
