Michigan High School Basketball - Carlson holds off Roosevelt
January 6, 2011: Gibraltar, MI 48173 Fans at Thursday's league challenge between the Carlson Marauders (Gibraltar, MI) and the visiting Roosevelt Bears (Wyandotte, MI), saw Carlson's basketball squad hold off Roosevelt by a score of 53-51.
With the victory, Carlson improves its record to 5-1 on the campaign. The Marauders travel to Truman (Taylor, MI) to play the Cougars in a Downriver challenge on Tuesday, January 11. The Cougars come into the challenge with a record of 4-0. Truman won 53-39 in their recent non-league battle against Clarenceville (Livonia, MI)
The Bears (3-2) will now prepare for their battle against Kennedy (Taylor, MI). The Eagles come into the Downriver battle with a 1-4 record. In their last battle, Kennedy was nudged by Melvindale (Melvindale, MI), 55-51, in a league battle.
First Quarter
Wyan open the game on 8-2 run matched by Carlson 9-2 run to close the quarter
Third Quarter
Carlson starts on 8-2 run highlighted by two threes from Kyle Ready to open a 10 point lead, and Wyandotte immediately scores 8 straight to cut the lead back to two
Fourth Quarter
DeAngelo Solomon hits two FT's to break a 48-48 tie with just over a minute remaining. Kyle Ready makes two FT's before a Jett Cavazos three pointer with 5.2 seconds left cut the lead to one. Daton Aaron makes one FT with three seconds left then steals the ball with .5 seconds to seal the win. A timing error gives WYAN the ball back but Kyle Ready knocked away the inbounds pass, to again seal the victory.
