Massachusetts High School Volleyball - Walpole over Weymouth
October 10, 2012: Walpole, MA 02081 The crowd at Wednesday's non-league bout between the Walpole Rebels (Walpole, MA) and the visiting Weymouth Wildcats (South Weymouth, MA), saw Walpole's volleyball squad beat Weymouth by a tally of 3-1.
With the win, Walpole upgrades its record to 8-3 on the year. The Rebels host Wellesley (Wellesley, MA) to play the Raiders in a Bay State - Herget bout on Friday, October 12. The Raiders go into the bout with a record of 11-1. Wellesley won 3-2 in their recent non-league bout against Braintree (Braintree, MA)
The Wildcats now own a 5-6 record. They play next when they host Newton North for a Bay State - Carey bout on Friday, October 12. Weymouth will play a Tigers squad coming off a 3-0 non-league win over Dedham (Dedham, MA). The Tigers record now stands at 9-1.
Match Summary
Walpole started sluggish and trailed Weymouth in each of the four sets. In set 1, the score stayed tight until 7-7, when the Rebels were able to take the lead and keep it until the end. In set 2, the Rebels chipped away at Weymouth's lead until they tied it up at 18. A point for point battle ensued until the Rebels finished it with the help of kills from Summer King and Marissa Ryan. In set 3, the Rebels were always within reach of the win, but could not keep the momentum up to be able to take control of the set or finish off the match. In set 4, the Rebels had the lead on 2 occasions, but allowed Weymouth to creep back. Strong serving by Steph Barmakian, Emily Rothenberg, and Lauren Bodin contributed to a strong finish and match win. Weymouth had outstanding defense which made Walpole work harder to earn their points. The Rebels worked as a team and each player contributed to the win.
