North Carolina High School Volleyball - Providence overwhelmed by Cardinal Gibbons
September 27, 2008: Charlotte, NC 28270 In Saturday's non-league battle, the visiting Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders volleyball team scored a 3-0 triumph over the Providence Panthers.
The Crusaders (16-0) will now prepare for their battle against Orange (Hillsborough, NC). The Panthers come into the Mid-State 2A/1A battle with a 11-1 record. In their last battle, Orange achieved victory over Cummings (Burlington, NC), 3-0, in a league battle.
Next, the Panthers clash with the Hopewell Titans (Huntersville, NC) in a non-league battle, on Monday, September 29. Providence will attempt to advance on its 2-5 season record.
Match Summary
In the day’s second match, Gibbons jumped to an 8-4 lead in game 1 behind a kill by Kerry Rom (5-9 Sr. OH). Kills by Michelle Fadool accounted for the Crusaders' final two points. Providence took a 5-2 lead to start the second frame but Rom’s kill tied things up at 7-7. Gibbons closed the set with a 12-4 rush keyed by Christina Dosimond’s (5-9 Jr. MB) three kills. Michelle Nemesi’s kill gave Cardinal Gibbons a 12-4 lead to start the third set but Providence closed to 16-12. Molly Krull’s 4th ace of the match accounted for the day's final point.
Fadool paced Gibbons with 11 kills and 3 blocks and Bugg chipped in 9 kills and 9 digs. Molly Krull piled up 31 assists and Cayla Shortley had 14 digs. Michelle Nemesi had 8 kills and 5 blocks and Christina Dorismond posted 7 kills.
