California High School Baseball - Sequoia wallops Lindsay
March 27, 2013: Lindsay, CA 93247 In Wednesday's non-league bout, the Sequoia Cherokee (Redwood City, CA) baseball team crushed the host Lindsay Cardinals (Lindsay, CA), by a count of 10-0.
The Cherokee now possess a 6-7 record. They take the field next when they host Woodside for a Peninsula - Ocean bout on Tuesday, April 2. Sequoia will face a Wildcats team coming off a 5-3 non-league loss to Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco, CA). The Wildcats record now stands at 4-9.
Next, the Cardinals face the Corcoran Panthers (Corcoran, CA) in a East Sequoia bout, on Tuesday, April 2. Lindsay will attempt to move on its 3-9 season record. The Panthers enter the bout with a 6-5 record after their 10-5 non-league win over Golden Valley (Bakersfield, CA).
Game Summary
The Cherokees finished off the Selma Easter Classic in style with a 10-0 blanking of Lindsay High in a game shortened to six innings by the mercy rule. Kyle Cambron (3-2) struck out 9 and allowed just four hits over six innings to earn the win. Sequoia struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, and held the slim 2 run lead until opening the game up with three runs in the 5th and 5 more in the bottom of the 6th. JR shortstop Jarrett Crowell was 2 X 4 with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base, JR catcher Chris Ortiz was 2 X 3 with a double and scored three times, and Carson Parodi's pinch-hit two run single highlighted the Cherokees 5th inning rally. Sequoia finished the tournament 2-1-1, good enough for a fourth place finish.
