Rhode Island High School Basketball - West Warwick nudges Sanchez Complex
January 23, 2019: West Warwick, RI 02893 In Wednesday's league outing, the West Warwick Wizards (West Warwick, RI) basketball squad edged the visiting Sanchez Complex Cavaliers (Providence, RI), by a margin of 59-53.
The Wizards (9-5) will now prepare for their outing against Barrington (Barrington, RI). The Eagles go into the Division II outing with a 10-4 record. In their last outing, Barrington held off East Greenwich (East Greenwich, RI), 84-63, in a league outing.
The Cavaliers now own a 8-4 record. They play next when they host Tolman for a Division II outing on Friday, January 25. Sanchez Complex will clash with a Tigers squad coming off a 76-40 league loss to Narragansett (Narragansett, RI). The Tigers record now stands at 3-8.
Second Quarter
Trailing 16-4 with 9:16 left in the first half, the Cavaliers of Juanita Sanchez forced several Wizard turnovers and went on a 20-5 run to take a 24-21 lead into intermission.
Fourth Quarter
Led by senior Dante Lopes who scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half, West Warwick (9-5) won their fifth league of the year 59-53. Junior Jakhai Rose bounced back from a two game struggle with a game-high 21 points and 22 rebounds for the Wizards.
