New York High School Softball - Avon nudges Livonia
April 26, 2018: Avon, NY 14414 The crowd at Thursday's non-league match between the Avon Braves (Avon, NY) and the visiting Livonia Bulldogs (Livonia, NY), saw Avon's softball squad nip Livonia by a count of 5-4.
The Braves now sport a 6-1 record. They take the field next when they travel to Perry for a non-league match on Friday, April 27.
With the loss, Livonia falls to 5-3 on the campaign. The Bulldogs travel to Wayland-Cohocton (Wayland, NY) to face the Eagles in a Livingston County Division I match on Friday, April 27. The Eagles enter the match with a record of 8-2. Wayland-Cohocton won 16-0 in their recent non-league match against York (Retsof, NY)
Game Summary
Sophomore Abby Decillis hit a one out two run walk off single in the bottom of the eighth to win the game for Avon. The Braves had loaded the bases on consecutive singles by Keni Read, Maddy Smith and Ari Walker. Livonia had taken the lead in the top of the eighth on a two out sinking liner to right by Katelyn DeWater that scored Audrey Minton from second. Minton hit a two run homer in the fifth inning to give Livonia a 3-0 lead. The Braves came back with two runs of their own in the fifth as Decillis drove in one run with a triple and Katrina Yencer drove in the second run on a fielder's choice. Avon tied the game in the bottom of the sixth as Joleigh Crye led off with a single and scored on a two out double by Walker. Crye pitched a complete game four hitter with twelve strikeouts. Avon is now 6-1 on the season.
