Florida High School Soccer - Clearwater Central Catholic held off by Berkeley Prep
January 6, 2009: Clearwater, FL 33760 The Berkeley Prep Buccaneers tipped the host Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders soccer squad by a margin of 1-0 in Tuesday's league match.
The Buccaneers now hold a 15-1 record. They put it on the line next when they host St. Petersburg Catholic for a Class 3A - District 9 match on Thursday, January 8. Berkeley Prep will play a Barons squad coming off a 4-2 non-league loss to Newsome (Lithia, FL). The Barons record now stands at 3-4.
With the loss, Clearwater Central Catholic drops to 2-6 on the season. The Marauders host Trinity Catholic (Ocala, FL) to play the Celtics in a non-league match on Saturday, January 10. The Celtics come into the match with a record of 0-0.
First Half
Berkeley Prep visited CCC for a big district 3A-9 game. The Bucs looked flat in the first half and created very little opportunities to score. The Bucs out possessed the Mauraders for the most of the half, but a few counter-attacks from the host put some fear in the Bucs defense. The game was scoreless at half.
Second Half
The Bucs outshot the Mauraders 18 to 4, but could not unlock the CCC goal for most of the game. The Bucs' defense didn't break and the team responded late, as MF Eri Jacobs jumped on a loose ball in the CCC box and fired the Bucs ahead, with 10 minutes left. CCC's Kris Dris was sent off with 4 minutes left in the game.
