January 22, 2009: Lakeland, FL 33813 The Jenkins Eagles soccer team scored 2 points and limited the visiting Berkeley Prep Buccaneers to 0 in the Eagles non-league win on Thursday.
The Buccaneers now have a 20-2 record. They play next when they host Shorecrest Prep for a non-league contest on Saturday, January 24. Berkeley Prep will confront a Chargers team coming off a 0-0 non-league Bishop McLaughlin Catholic (Spring Hill, FL). The Chargers record now stands at 3-1.
First Half
Berkeley visited Lakeland's George Jenkins High on a cold and chilly night. The Eagles had lost their first game of the season the night before and weren't ready to lose another game in as many days. The Eagles came out fired up and put pressure on the Bucs every chance they could. The Bucs gave up a goal early 4 minutes in the game as a bad pass was intercepted and hammered into the top corner of the goal. Bucs' GK had no chance on the shot from 20 yards out. The Bucs matched the Eagles intensity the last 10 minutes of the half but could only find the net once. Unfortunately an offsides call took the goal away from the Bucs.
Second Half
Bucs continued to struggle with George Jenkins intensity and high pressure throughout the night. The Bucs gave up another goal off a corner kick half way through the second half to take away any chance of equalising.
