California High School Soccer - Tulelake held off by Quincy
October 18, 2011: Tulelake, CA 96134 In Tuesday's non-league battle, the visiting Quincy Trojans soccer squad scored a close 2-1 triumph over the Tulelake Honkers.
The Trojans (15-5) will now prepare for their battle against Loyalton (Loyalton, CA). The Grizzlies come into the non-league battle with a 0-5 record. In their last battle, Loyalton was edged by Paradise Adventist Academy (Paradise, CA), 6-1, in a league battle.
The Honkers (10-4) will now prepare for their battle against Redding Christian (Palo Cedro, CA). The Lion come into the Evergreen League battle with a 10-9 record. In their last battle, Redding Christian nudged Foothill (Palo Cedro, CA), 4-0, in a non-league battle.
Game Summary
Quincy came out strong with much possession and an excellent offsides trap that caught Tulelake 5 times in the first 6 minutes of the game. Dale Morgan beat a defender dribbling up the left sideline then crossed the ball in front of the goal to Dante Knowles who finished with a strong header into the right corner to give Quincy a 1 goal lead. Later, Dale Morgan beat the last defender, dribbled to the goal and scored giving the Trojans what they thought would be a 2-0 lead. Only then did the center referee realize that the sideline referee had been holding up his flag for an offsides call he had made 90 seconds previous to the goal. The goal was disallowed and the Trojans went into half time with a one goal lead. The Honkers showed they weren't through yet and their strong offense outmaneuvered Quincy to tie the game. Dale Morgan had a 2nd goal disallowed by an offsides call. Justin Lusk scored the winning goal in the last minute of the game by following up a shot by Dale Morgan
