Texas High School Basketball - Strake Jesuit nipped by Alief Elsik
February 2, 2010: Houston, TX 77411 The Alief Elsik Rams tipped the visiting Strake Jesuit Crusaders basketball team by a final score of 64-60 in Tuesday's league game.
In their next game, the Rams face the Memorial Mustangs (Houston, TX) in a 5A Region III District 18 game, on Friday, February 5. Alief Elsik will attempt to move on its 22-9 season record. The Mustangs enter the game with a 10-14 record after their 55-31 league win over Northbrook (Houston, TX).
With the defeat, Strake Jesuit moves to 14-12 on the year. The Crusaders host Alief Taylor (Houston, TX) to face the Lions in a 5A Region III District 18 game on Friday, February 5. The Lions enter the game with a record of 13-14. Alief Taylor won 50-43 in their recent league game against Spring Woods (Houston, TX)
First Quarter
The Crusaders made the first move to score early with a 2 point lead which would be their last. In turn, the Rams made adjustments to their press and forced the issue early and often with transition points.
Second Quarter
The 2nd quarter saw jesuit commit a handful of unforced turnovers which Elsik in turn converted on the break. A last second deep 3 by the Rams would add to deficit as Elsik went in to the break with a 17 point lead and in control.
Third Quarter
The 2nd half saw the Crusaders come out more determined and ready to get back into the game. Breaking the Rams' press, along with precise execution on offense helped the Crusaders have one of their biggest scoring quarters of the year. Holding the Rams to a single digit score in turn put Elsik on their heels as they looked to regroup going into the 4th.
Fourth Quarter
Both teams found their shooting touch in this quarter, going back and forth until late in the quarter where Jesuit found itself down by 3. Missed opportunities for the Crusaders would come back to haunt them as the Rams converted late game freethrows to secure their home court win.
