May 20, 2011: Washingtonville, NY 10992 The Washingtonville Wizards softball team (Washingtonville, NY), 2-0 in Friday's non-league test with the visiting Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks (Newburgh, NY)
Coming up next, the Goldbacks encounter the Suffern Mounties (Suffern, NY) in a non-league test, on Saturday, May 21. Newburgh Free Academy will attempt to improve on its 6-9 season record. The Mounties enter the test with a 10-7 record after their 10-7 non-league win over Mamaroneck (Mamaroneck, NY).
The Wizards (1-7) will now prepare for their test against Valley Central (Montgomery, NY). The Vikings enter the Orange County test with a 14-2 record.
Game Summary
The NFA Lady Goldbacks defeated Washingtonville friday to complete a rain shortend game from last friday.Gabbi Bruno pitched a 2 hitter with 2 walks and 10 strikeouts. The Goldback Defense was flawless with no errors and some great defensive plays.
Brooke Stupple had two hits and an rbi and caught a great game. Kristen Steele led the offensive attack (15 hits total) with 4 hits,3 runs scored,2 rbis,a triple and 3 stolen bases.Rachel Berwick,Taylor Solomon and Stupple had two hits and two rbi's each. Gabbi Bruno helped herself by blasting two doubles with a rbi. JV Call-ups Maggie Martin, Jenna York and Mariah Rodriguez(who had 2 hits also) contributed with great pinchrunning and courtsey running for our pitcher and catcher. Newburgh begins sectional play on Tuesday, May 31 against Pine Bush at 4pm at Pine Bush.Go Lady Goldbacks!!!!
