California High School Softball - Diamond Bar gets by Rowland
May 3, 2012: Rowland Heights, CA 91748 The Diamond Bar Brahmas (Diamond Bar, CA) softball nipped the host Rowland Raiders (Rowland Heights, CA), 1-0 in Thursday's league bout.
The Brahmas (9-11) will now prepare for their bout against Bonita (La Verne, CA). The Bearcats go into the Hacienda bout with a 15-7 record. In their last bout, Bonita held off El Rancho (Pico Rivera, CA), 5-3, in a non-league bout.
The Raiders now possess a 5-19 record. They play next when they host West Covina for a Hacienda bout on Tuesday, May 8. Rowland will confront a Bulldogs squad coming off a 8-5 league loss to Los Altos (Hacienda Heights, CA). The Bulldogs record now stands at 12-9.
Game Summary
Diamond Bar's Marissa McKendall scored the only run of the game on Natalie Barajas' hit to center that was misplayed in the top of the fifth inning that gave the Brahmas a 1-0 win over Rowland in Hacienda League action May 3 at Rowland High.
Junior pitcher Dani Wilson (7-5) and the Brahmas defense shut down the Raiders in the final two innings to preserve the victory and even Diamond Bar's league record to 5-5 and its overall mark to 9-11-1. Wilson struck out five and tossed a five-hitter to earn the complete-game win. Wilson also slammed a ball over the left-field fence but it drifted just foul in the sixth inning.
Wilson, Brianna Gonzalez, Briana Martinez and Alyssa Donnelly each singled for the Brahmas. Catcher Liz Rubalcava picked off two runners, and Diamond Bar took advantage of Rowland's five errors.
Rowland's catcher Kaylea Snaer, who's hitting .544 with 33 RBIs and 14 homers, was intentionally walked three times. Esperanza Sanchez took the pitching loss for the Raiders.
