California High School Softball - Torrey Pines nudges Otay Ranch
March 29, 2012: Chula Vista, CA 91913 Torrey Pines Falcons (San Diego, CA) backers exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Otay Ranch Mustangs (Chula Vista, CA), 1-0 in a non-league challenge.
The Falcons now own a 14-0 record. They take the field next when they travel to Canyon Crest Academy for a non-league challenge on Saturday, March 31.
With the loss, Otay Ranch falls to 6-3 on the campaign. The Mustangs travel to El Capitan (Lakeside, CA) to battle the Vaqueros in a non-league challenge on Saturday, March 31. The Vaqueros enter the challenge with a record of 7-4. El Capitan lost 8-6 in their recent non-league challenge against Olympian (Chula Vista, CA)
Game Summary
The Torrey Pines Falcons defeated the Otay Ranch Mustangs 1-0 yesterday at Otay Ranch in a very well played Falcon Fiesta 2nd round game tournament game. Junior, Right-Handed Pitcher, Rachel Nasland (Notre Dame) improved her record to 8-0 by throwing a complete game 2 hittter with 8 strike outs to secure the win. Torrey Pines which outhit the Mustangs 7-2 stranded 7 runners in the contest but managed to push accross a 5th inning run to gain the victory. In the Falcon 5th inning, Torrey Pines used a one out walk to Sophomore Kelsey Buchanan followed by a wind blown double by Freshmen Catcher Shelbianne Evans and an RBI ground out by Sophomore Emily Wolking to produce the games only run. Nasland got out of a 5th inning jam by retiring 2 batters with runners on 2nd and 3rd with only one out to preserve the lead as Wolking made a sparking defensive play to rob the Mustangs of 2 runs. With the win Torrey Pines improves to 14-0 on the season while Otay Ranch drops to 6-3.
