West Virginia High School Softball - East Surry tipped by Cabell Midland
March 23, 2013: Ona, WV 25545 The Cabell Midland Knights softball team scored 9 runs and limited the visiting East Surry Cardinals to 7 in the Knights non-league triumph on Saturday.
With the triumph, Cabell Midland moves its record to 3-0 on the year.
In their next game, the Cardinals clash with the Starmount Rams (Boonville, NC) in a non-league game, on Saturday, March 23. East Surry will attempt to move on its 3-4 season record.
Game Summary
The Lady Knights battled a strong East Surry team and came away with a hard fought 9 - 7 victory on Saturday. Morgan Zerkle led off with a triple for the Knights and scored on Mandi King's RBI single in the bottom of the first to put the Knights up 2 - 0 early but East Surry battled back to tie the game in the top of the third on a two run home run by shortstop, Jessica Barker. The Knights struck back in the bottom of the third scoring three times. They added two more runs in the fourth only to see East Surry come roaring back with run in the fourth and a four run sixth. The Knights responded as Zerkle and Jordan Colliflower singled and scored on a long fly ball by Morgan Kelley. After six strong innings in near freezing conditions, Kyle Shull gave way to Abbie Tolbert who wrapped up the victory.
The Knights return home with games scheduled every day but weather is threatening to cut into the schedule.
