Texas High School Basketball - Stratford nipped by Strake Jesuit
January 22, 2010: Houston, TX 77079 The Strake Jesuit Crusaders tipped the host Stratford Spartans basketball team by a final score of 39-37 in Friday's league game.
In their next game, the Crusaders face the Memorial Mustangs (Houston, TX) in a 5A Region III District 18 game, on Tuesday, January 26. Strake Jesuit will attempt to move on its 12-11 season record. The Mustangs enter the game with a 9-12 record after their 51-45 league loss to Spring Woods (Houston, TX).
With the defeat, Stratford moves to 13-9 on the year. The Spartans host Alief Taylor (Houston, TX) to face the Lions in a 5A Region III District 18 game on Tuesday, January 26. The Lions enter the game with a record of 12-12. Alief Taylor lost 66-54 in their recent league game against Alief Elsik (Houston, TX)
First Quarter
The Crusaders and the Spartans both came out in a emotionally high atmoshpere as the 1st quarter saw both teams unable to find their shooting touch.
Second Quarter
The 2nd quarter would see the Crusaders find a rhythm in their transition game and offensive rebounding as they tightened their defense against the Spartans, limiting them to one possession per trip.
Third Quarter
In the 3rd, both teams would pick up the pace and their defenses as the Spartans tried pressing the Crusaders and in turn the Crusaders adjusted their 1/2 court defenses constantly.
Fourth Quarter
The Spartans would finally find their deep shooting touch in the 4th as they closed the offensive gap. In turn the Crusaders would open up the floor and use their motion offense to get longer possessions and layups to keep the Spartans just out of reach until the end.
