Virginia High School Basketball - Prince George trounces Appomattox Regional Governor's Arts & Tech
December 9, 2009: Prince George, VA 23875 The Prince George Royals (Prince George, VA) basketball crushed the visiting Appomattox Regional Governor's Arts & Tech (Petersburg, VA), 79-46 in Wednesday's non-league test.
The Royals (3-0) will now prepare for their test against Matoaca (Chesterfield, VA). The Warriors go into the AAA Central test with a 2-2 record. In their last test, Matoaca was trounced by Henrico (Richmond, VA), 63-59, in a non-league test.
The now own a 0-3 record. They take the field next when they host Windsor for a A Tri-Rivers test on Tuesday, December 15. Appomattox Regional Governor's Arts & Tech will clash with a Dukes squad coming off a 74-28 non-league loss to Nansemond-Suffolk Academy (Suffolk, VA). The Dukes record now stands at 0-2.
First Quarter
Prince George jumped out to a 10-0 lead to start the game, but ARGS kept pace through the rest of the quarter and trailed 21-10 entering the second quarter.
Second Quarter
The Dragons rallied in the second behind made field goals from five different players, and used a 17-10 run to trim the Royals' lead to 31-27 with 1:00 minute to play before the half. A quick 5-0 spurt to close the quarter sparked Prince George to a 36-27 halftime advantage.
Third Quarter
The Royals defended furiously in the third quarter and took over the previously close contest. With a 28-9 win in the stanza, the Royals put the game out of reach for the visiting Dragons.
Fourth Quarter
Treon Claiborne led the Royals with 21 points, while ARGS was led by Vincent Crawley with 20 points and 5 assists and Dimitri Ross with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Markis Grandison notched 14 points and 7 assists and Nic Sulc added 10 points and 11 rebounds for Prince George. Collin Pastore added 10 rebounds and 4 steals for ARGS.
