Kansas High School Basketball - Heights edges Southeast
February 10, 2009: Wichita, KS 67218 The Heights Falcons (Wichita, KS) basketball nipped the host Southeast Golden Buffalo (Wichita, KS), 63-60 in Tuesday's league test.
The Falcons (15-1) will now prepare for their test against West (Wichita, KS). The Pioneers go into the Greater Wichita City test with a 3-12 record. In their last test, West got by Northwest (Wichita, KS), 76-59, in a league test.
The Golden Buffalo now own a 13-3 record. They take the field next when they host South for a Greater Wichita City test on Friday, February 13.
First Quarter
#1 Heights went on the road for the 3rd straight game and played #4 Southeast. The Buffalos Joe Mitchell came out on fire with 12 points leading Southeast to a 20-13 lead.
Second Quarter
Heights defense toughened up limiting Southeast to 6 points. Southeast became fustrated by the Falcons defense and held the ball for 3 minutes trying to extend Heights man defense. Heights trailed 24-26 at half time.
Third Quarter
Heights came out and took control of the game with a Perry Ellis dunk. Evan Wessel scored 6 points in the quarter. Heights limited the buffalos to 12 points and took a 41-38 lead heading into the final quarter
Fourth Quarter
Heights made 11-14 freethrows in the final quarter and held on to win 63-60. Perry Ellis led Heights with 24 points, Austin Bahner scored 15 and had 9 rebounds while Evan Wessell scored 13 points and only two turnovers vs. Southeast pressure. Heights moves to 15-1 overall and 12-0 in the City League.
