California High School Baseball - Santa Maria loses to Santa Ynez
March 30, 2012: Santa Ynez, CA 93460 In Friday's league game, the host Santa Ynez Pirates baseball team scored a nice 11-0 victory over the Santa Maria Saints.
The Pirates (11-3) will now prepare for their match against Mission Prep (San Luis Obispo, CA). The Royals go into the non-league match with a 3-8 record.
The Saints (1-11) will now prepare for their match against Soledad (Soledad, CA). The Aztecs go into the non-league match with a 4-5 record. In their last match, Soledad was overwhelmed by Pacific Grove (Pacific Grove, CA), 1-0, in a league match.
Game Summary
The Santa Ynez Pirates bats continue to stay hot as the host Pirates won a league game over visiting Santa Maria by a score of 11-0. Santa Ynez banged out 11 hits. Felipe Gonzalez, Zach DeMarcus and Lee Jensen had two hits apiece while Colby Barrick, Troy Mauk, Brooks Fillipin, Nick Ruelas and Brock Dickey contributed one hit. Gonzalez and DeMarcus both homered for the Pirates and Ruelas doubled. The Pirates broke the game open scoring 7 runs in the 3rd inning. With one out, Jensen singled, Rowan got on on an error. Fillipin singled and with the bases loaded sophomore Nick Ruelas hit a double that cleared the bases. The bases became loaded again and Felipe Gonzalez delivered a towering home run to right field for a grand slam. DeMarcus added his solo shot in the 6th. His second homerun of the week. Thomas Rowan and Hunter Totemeier combined for the one hit shutout with Rowan picking up his 4th victory on the season. SY is 11-3 overall and 5-1 in league.
