California High School Basketball - Baptist Christian thwarted by Academy for Academic Excellence
December 7, 2013: Hemet, CA 92544 The Baptist Christian Warriors basketball team (Hemet, CA), was toppled 50-38 in Saturday's non-league battle with the visiting Academy for Academic Excellence Knights (Apple Valley, CA)
The Knights now possess a 3-0 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Big Bear for a non-league battle on Thursday, December 12.
The Warriors (1-1) will now prepare for their battle against Santa Rosa Academy (Menifee, CA). The Rangers come into the non-league battle with a 1-3 record. In their last battle, Santa Rosa Academy was toppled by Nuview Bridge (Nuevo, CA), 55-25, in a non-league battle.
First Quarter
AAE got off to a slow start offensively. Quick shots and bad execution hampered what could have been a big quarter. Nick Natali, 5pts, and Isaac Pieper, 4pts, paced the Knights early.
Second Quarter
A better defensive quarter for the Knights, holding the Warriors to 8pts. Offense still struggled to find traction but Tim Thymes, 5pts, and Isaac Pieper, 4pts, kept the Knights afloat. Along with energy of 6th man Nick Natali.
Third Quarter
With a renewed focus and energy the Knights came out and jumped all over the Warriors. Michael Coulter, with 10pts and 7rebs in the third, was the Spark the Knights needed. Along with defensive pressure by D'Andre Reyes, Jed Phillips, and Tyler Souter, the Knights were able to seize control of the game with a 20-9 3rd quarter.
Fourth Quarter
The Knights continued to apply defensive pressure to the Warriors forcing countless mistakes. Smart floor games by D'Andre Reyes, Tyler Souter, and Isaac Pieper allowed AAE to hold on for a 50-38 victory and the Tournament Championship.
